Ever since it was founded in 1904 in the Swiss village of Hölstein, Oris has gone its own way. Oris is one of a small handful of Swiss watch brands that makes only mechanical watches. A mechanical watch is a thing of beauty, designed according to principles that have been around for generations and will continue long into the future. The vision of Oris’s founders was to
make the best possible watch at the best possible price. Alongside the hand of
the traditional watchmaker, this meant introducing industrialized, high-quality manufacturing techniques. More than a century later, that’s still the Oris way.
ORIS INNOVATION – CALIBRE 400
Oris has created over 280 movements since it was founded in 1904; Calibre 400 takes all that experience and brings it right up to date for life in the modern world. Oris Calibre 400 sets the new standard in mechanical watchmaking. Conceived entirely in-house by the independent Swiss watch company’s skilled engineers, it has a five-day power reserve, high levels of magnetism, and comes with a 10-year warranty and 10-year recommended service intervals. It’s a mechanical movement for a new generation.
CHANGE FOR THE BETTER
Despite the passing of 116 years, Oris is still based in the small Swiss village of Hölstein, 25 km south-east of Basel, and the factory is still on the same site where founders Paul Cattin and Georges Christian set up their watchmaking business in 1904. One of the reasons they chose Hölstein is that it’s set in the beautiful Waldenburg Valley, and not far from the nearby brook that gave Oris its name. From every window in the Oris factory, workers have a view into nature. Oris is on a mission to bring ‘Change for the Better’, working with conservation organisations and pioneers such as Jérôme Delafosse and raising funds and awareness of vital ecological issues, particularly around water, the source of life.
